Once Norman stretched, yawned and cuddled with me this morning in bed, he was ready to go out for his morning constitutional. We've received six inches of snow overnight and as Norman jumped from the steps out into the yard, he vanished into the snow! LOST! Submerged in a sea of white fluffy frosting! But our intrepid Yorkshire friend shot straight up and out his trench, squawking like a macaw, "...this wouldn't have happened if I were a golden retriever..." and made his tinkle. Quickly.

On the other hand, "The Daisy's" have been in and out a hundred times, running, rooting and rolling in the snow, which is now at eight inches. I love the snow. But gnawing at my fragile subconscious is the knowledge that many creatures are forced to endure this weather and they
suffer horribly. At least humans have options. Animals are so vulnerable because we've made them dependent on us. If we don't take care of them, who will? It drives me crazy that I have the ability to help but I'm "not allowed to 'do business' until my property is in compliance". And this fallacy that I'm "doing business" is insulting. I AM A RESCUER NOT A SHOPKEEPER. It fills me with a maddening inertia.
