Churning

The storm yesterday was full of lightening and guess what happened? The modem in my (newly repaired) laptop got fried. So despite the generosity of the Grell family providing me with Internet access, it is now moot. The Internet gods DO NOT want me on the web. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm an analog girl in a digital world (actually I'm borrowing that from Erykah Badu).

So here I am back at the library, sitting across from a pervert who leers only at prepubescent girls, pecking away at a contaminated keyboard, trying to be productive in a room full of salacious drop-outs. At the computer to my left is a mouth breather, chewing his nails like a ferret as he types messages to an underage girl (I heard him gloat to one of his cronies who stopped by to bum a cig from him...) he hopes to soon defile. On my right is a very obese man wearing headphones who only watches Shirley Manson (of the band "Garbage") videos through his greasy, thick myopic glasses, making strange groaning noises throughout...I must be in Hell.
Note to God: WHY?

I try to keep from feeling overwhelmed by all the pressures towering over me and for the most part I keep it together. The phrase, "No good deed goes unpunished" rings so loudly in my ears that my head throbs as I write. This morning I was in tears. One step forward and three steps back. This is when I start thinking that maybe I should just chuck the whole non-profit thing, sell my land, buy a little house and keep two or three dogs only. No more rescue. Let someone else take over for awhile. But who? And how? I am nauseated. I'm out of here.

Katherine, the new modem is on it's way. when it arrives you can call me and I walk you through. I understand that all these things seem to be happening at the most inopportune time, but if we keep pulling together we can get it done. We are working on some other avenues to get you some help, so hang in there.
