Since Saturday when he arrived with Oso and Faith Ann, Thomas has been a peripheral observer of me and all the other dogs. Initially he seemed to rely on Faith Ann for moral support but as Faith Ann focused on me, Thomas was intrigued...

...he has taken treats from me since he arrived but this morning, as I was having a cup of tea, Thomas slowly came over to me. I gave him part of my English muffin, which he gently took and I spoke to him in a kind of dulcet tone. When I looked away, I felt a paw on my right thigh. Then
another paw on my left leg. Next thing I know, Thomas is trying to get into my lap and wagging
his tail! SUCCESS! All morning, he's been coming in and out of the camper, each time checking in with me, tail wagging!

I have to admit it was the one freaky thing about Thomas that bugged me, the fact that he wasn't wagging his tail in response to ANY positive experience. Treats, ear and tummy rubs,
sweet talk--it was if he couldn't allow himself to feel happy. Yet deep down that's all any of us wants, to feel happy. Thomas is on his way!
