The Dog Lady Blog

The wind was really blowing strong from the North when I put my pot of hot-off-my-little-camper's-gas- stove-bath-water outside, aka my "bath tub", a little while ago.  It makes for a brisk wash but in a weird way, it always feels so good, even naked and wet on a wind whipped 34* early evening. 

Knowing I'm leaving here makes me so aware of how my life will change into a more typical, more comfortable pedestrian way; having running water, a home without wheels beneath it, one with real Internet; a washer and dryer...stuff I haven't had in ages!  But I welcome it reluctantly.  Since 1998 I've really dug living like a 12 year old Amazon. No parents, no boys, no rules and it was a great run--it really, really was.  This land is a true, healing spot.  The hills are alive, or so goes a song, but it really is true here.

The gist of tonight?  I'm now freshly bathed, in my dryer-warm jammies, a slice of sweet potato pie and a big glass of milk waiting while cracking open "Wolf", a Jack London biography.  I feel safe, happy and thankful.  All is well, here in our 12 year old Amazon-take of a perfect world, dogs sleeping deeply at my feet.

UPDATE:  Couldn't do the Jack London story afterall.  Too much killing of the animals. I'm going to read Larry McMurtry's second memoir.  k
