Percy on Patrol
That's my swing I built when I moved here.
You get a deep-pull-in-your-tummy sensation
as you glide out over the ridge that is our "back yard".
It's a 34% slope, 300 feet straight down.
Vertigo!
Oso
Living on the river in Jeffersonville, Oso found his calling:
From the top of the sofa, he perches and calls out whenever someone walks down
Riverside Drive. This is a photo from last year; Oso never let me go anywhere
without him and he always sat on whatever the middle part of the seat is called.
Josie Wrestles Percy into Complacency
She is completely oblivious to her teeniness and takes on all comers.
The Canine Equivalent of Hand Holding
Sweet peas!
Gabe and Cody
These two are "run-till-you-drop" dogs.
They never met a creek, hill or trail they didn't traverse.
They were adopted into the same home and have thrived with their family.
Gabe had been hit by a car; the top of his head scraped raw but he recovered quickly.
Cody acts like Gabe's bodyguard to this day, "Mutt and Jeff" if ever there were.
Don't You Wonder What She's Thinking?
I wish this was a clearer photograph but I still love it.
This girl hung around all day, unharmed and not incapacitated, maybe chilly
as the weather was starting to get cooler. I put a piece of banana on the rail
where she was sunning herself and she ate it!
Very delicate, very graceful and camouflaging herself as best she can.
... charming birds from the trees...
Not really but nonetheless I encounter all kinds of critters here, from birds to snakes, to
raccoon and foxes, turkeys, turtles and toads, no species is exempt from care.
Cleaning My "Reservoir"
What is actually a galvanized six foot diameter livestock tank, I've used for years
as my bath and dog water holding tank. In the summertime, on ultra-awfully hot days,
I float in this tank to cool off and catch some rays, wondering what's wrong with being poor?
Would a big, in ground pool make me any happier than I am in that moment?
No.
The Exquisite Calm of the Afternoon Nap
Watching my dogs sleep is one way I meditate.
It also makes me happy knowing that the animals I care for
are safe, sound and secure. That's the gift of this work:
even if it's only one dog that is rescued, knowing that you've
created a safe, loving place in this harsh world is a gift 360*.
Slice and Sash
Whatever this goofy metal rung/step on my Tundra is called doesn't matter.
It had rusted and was falling off so I thought I'd give it some help by wrenching the loose end off.
As you'll see, I sliced myself but good and ended up wrapping a bandana around my hand...
...a white one that turned scarlet from all the bleeding!
I'm always maiming myself but I'm milk-fed.
I can take a beating.
